Are you a big fan of the television series Game of Thrones? Are you fascinated by tremendous ancient castles and dazzling coastlines? If the answer is yes, come to Dubrovnik! This is probably one of the most famous and touristic cities in Croatia, where visitors can find everything from beautiful old town to quality seafood restaurants, vibrant nightlife, and romantic seaside resorts. Here are some things you won’t want to miss here.

Hike Through the city walls

As soon as you enter the old town through the Ploce Gate from the North, don’t be overwhelmed by the massive city walls that surround it. These walls are open to visitors daily between 8:00 AM and 5:30 PM. The walk through all parts of the city wall lasts between 1 to 2 hours, depending on weather conditions. The total length of the wall is 1.24 miles but there are a lot of stairs and most likely a long line in front of you.

Stroll along the squares and palaces

Upon arrival, you might easily get lost in tons of narrow streets and similar squares around the old town. The most major square includes the area surrounding the Clock Town and Orlando’s Column, where most locals and tourists gather as a meeting point. The Church of Saint Blaise is to the south of the Bell Tower. You should not miss this area!

Experience the nightlife

One of the best things to experience in Dubrovnik is the lively local nightlife. You will be amazed to find every street corner lit up and live music on the street or indoors at ancient looking bars.

Visit a church

Dubrovnik has some stunning Baroque churches, cathedrals, and monasteries such as the Franciscan Monastery, Cathedral of the Assumption of Virgin Mary and the St. Blasius Church. Most of these religious buildings can be entered for free and are worth seeing. The architecture alone will leave you inspired.

Relax on the beach

Dubrovnik has many tourist beaches such as Banje Beach near the old town. But you may want to take a ferry to escape these popular crowded places and head to the beautiful Lokrum Island and relax. Here you will find fewer crowds and more time to enjoy all that the beach has to offer.

Tour the Game of Thrones

Strolling around the old town, you will find many advertisements with the Game of Thrones tour sign. One of the best tours is run by Tour the Game of Thrones. It is a private walking tour given by knowledgeable guides. You can customize your tour or take one of their carefully designed ones. Either way, you will not only see some of the best filming locations but some of the best places Dubrovnik has to offer.

Come visit Dubrovnik, the center of the Seven Kingdoms, and enjoy all this city has to offer!

Great experience especially for GOT fans

Tonka (Tom's sister) took us on this tour and shared wonderful insights both into the locations/settings used in GOT as well as the happenings on set, as she herself was present on the sets, as an artist. Tonka also had a photo album book that helped us relate the locations with the specific GOT scenes/episodes. She was patient and explained well. She also did her best to answer the numerous questions we had. Great experience - a must do in Dubrovnik especially if you are a GOT fan.
